Social Emotional Learning

Hello WJMS families! Check out the Colt Connection, WJMS' Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Family Newsletter and resource page. Each week all WJMS students engage in a social emotional lesson in Advise. The purpose of the Colt Connection is to extend SEL learning and resources to WJMS families.

The Colt Connection will support students and their adults to engage in meaningful conversations at home to help foster healthy and nurturing family environments.

Jeffco has adopted the five core competencies of SEL outlined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL).

  • Self-Awareness
  • Self-Management
  • Social Awareness
  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision-Making (CASEL, 2020)

SEL happens in safe and supportive school, family and community environments that support development and provide opportunities and recognition for successfully applying skills.
